This submission appears to read more like an advertisement than an entry in an encyclopedia. Encyclopedia articles need to be written from a neutral point of view, and should refer to a range of independent, reliable, published sources, not just to materials produced by the creator of the subject being discussed. This is important so that the article can meet Wikipedia's verifiability policy and the notability of the subject can be established. If you still feel that this subject is worthy of inclusion in Wikipedia, please rewrite your submission to comply with these policies.

  • Comment: Why do we need a "Legacy" section when all it says is the man's death? "Freelanced" citations (FN6,7 as of commenting) seems pretty suspicious. You sure those meets WP:RS? ABG (Talk/Report any mistakes here) 15:54, 22 September 2024 (UTC)

Dr. Sydney Selvon (March 24, 1948[3] – August 26, 2021[4][5]) was a Mauritian journalist, editor, and historian known for his contributions to the media landscape and the documentation of Mauritius's cultural and political history. Throughout his career, Selvon held editorial positions in Canada, Australia, and Mauritius.[6][7]

Sydney Selvon's career spanned several decades, from 1972 till his death, and encompassed a range of roles within the field of journalism. He served as the Editor-in-Chief of Le Mauriticien, a daily newspaper in Mauritius. His editorials were created to spark national dialogue and influence public opinion on socio-political issues.[6][7]

Selvon was involved in founding and leading journalism organizations in Mauritius. He played roles in the establishment of the Association of Journalists of Mauritius and the Mauritius Union of Journalists, advocating for ethical standards and professional development within the industry.[6][7]

In addition to his editorial responsibilities, Selvon authored his own several books on Mauritian history and culture, including "A Comprehensive History of Mauritius" and "Port-Louis Harbour."[8]

Sydney Selvon's academic background provided a foundation for his career in journalism and historical research. He received his primary education at St. Jean Bosco Roman Catholic Authority School in Mauritius and pursued secondary education at Royal College, Curepipe. In addition, Selvon earned a doctorate in History, specializing in Journalism, from NWMD International University in South Africa.[6][7]
