Sorcerer Supreme

In Marvel Comics, the Sorcerer Supreme is the primary protector of Earth against magical and mystical threats.

The Sorcerer Supreme is a magic-user who is made the primary protector of Earth and keeps it safe from magical and mystical threats. The title may refer to one of the following fictional characters in Marvel Comics.

Agamotto the All-Seeing is the very first Sorcerer Supreme and a member of the Avengers of 1,000,000 BC.

In the year 1100, King Solomon was the Sorcerer Supreme who once faced off against Lilith's forces.^[1]

In the year 800, Queen Balkis was the Queen of Sheba and a Sorcerer Supreme who was the daughter of Lilith.^[2]

In the year 500 BC, Thales the Milesian, Pythagoras of Samos, and Pherecydes of Syros were three Greek men who formed the Triumvirate and became Sorcerer Supremes.^[3]

In the year 400 BC, Caius was a Greek man who was the Sorcerer Supreme.^[4]

Around the year 100, Zhang Jiao was a Chinese woman who was the Sorcerer Supreme.^[3]

In the year 400, Tafrara was a Moroccan woman who was the Sorcerer Supreme.^[5]

In the year 500, Merlin was the court wizard of King Arthur and the Sorcerer Supreme of his era.

In the year 616, Makeen was a Sorcerer Supreme who helped Papa Legbe fight Ogun.^[6]

In the 1000s, Murkfoot was a Sasquatch who served as a Sorcerer Supreme and was a member of the Avengers of 1,000 AD.^[7]

In 1692, Sebastian Shaw's ancestor Hiram Shaw was the Sorcerer Supreme.^[8]

In the 1700s, Isaac Newton is a member of the Brotherhood of the Shield and the Sorcerer Supreme of his era.

Kushala the Demon Rider is a skilled magic-wielder possessed by the Spirit of Vengeance, who becomes her 1850's Sorcerer Supreme.

In the 1950s, a girl named Nina was taught magic by her brother João.^[9]

The Ancient One is the first Sorcerer Supreme introduced in the Marvel Universe.

Dr. Stephen Strange is the Ancient One's successor as the Sorcerer Supreme.

Jericho Drumm is Doctor Strange's first successor as Sorcerer Supreme.

Loki Laufeyson is the Norse trickster god who is Dr. Strange's second successor as Sorcerer Supreme.

Clea Strange is Doctor Strange's wife and his third successor as Sorcerer Supreme. She was also the Sorcerer Supreme following his temporary death in the "Death of Doctor Strange" storyline.

William Kaplan, the Demiurge, succeeds Doctor Strange as Sorcerer Supreme in a possible future of Earth-616.

During the "Blood Hunt" storyline, Doctor Strange's astral form allowed Doctor Doom to be a temporary Sorcerer Supreme due to knowing the spell that would disperse the Darkforce around Earth. The spell worked and also had a side-effect of enabling the Vampire race to survive in sunlight. Doctor Doom went back on his deal with Doctor Strange to return the Sorcerer Supreme title to him and made Doctor Strange's astral form disappear from Latveria.^[10]

Besides Clea, there are other Sorcerer Supremes who come from other dimensions:

Aggamon served as the Sorcerer Supreme of the Purple Dimension.

Magik served as the Sorcerer Supreme of Limbo during her time there.

Shanzar is the Sorcerer Supreme of the Strange Matter Dimension. In need of a body outside of the Strange Matter Dimension, he possesses Hulk who transforms into Dark Hulk.^[11]

Tiboro was the Sorcerer Supreme of the Sixth Dimension.

On Earth-1721 depicting a possible future, Sarah the Terrible Eye succeeds Dr. Strange as Sorcerer Supreme.^[12]

In the Marvel 2099 reality, a young woman named Strange shares her body with a demon and is the Sorceress Supreme of Earth.

Doc Magus is Doctor Strange's successor as Sorcerer Supreme in the MC2 universe.^[13]

On Earth X, Baron Mordo was the Sorcerer Supreme

During the "Ultimate Invasion" storyline, Maker traveled to Earth-6160 and remade it into his own image. To further understand Vibranium, Black Panther sent Killmonger and Storm to Europe to obtain the services of the Sorcerer Supreme. One guy they interrogated states that he can tell them where to find the Sorcerer Supreme, but they'll have to kill a lot of people to get to the Sorcerer Supreme.^[14] Arriving at a facility and fighting the outside guards, Killmonger and Storm find everyone inside dead as they find an unknown female with a gag in her mouth speaking through one of her victims. As Killmonger and Storm state that they are friendly, the Sorcerer Supreme asks Killmonger to remove the gag on her mouth.^[15]

• The Marvel Cinematic Universe version of Wong (portrayed by Benedict Wong) was the Sorcerer Supreme succeeding the Ancient One following her death and Doctor Strange when he was "blipped" by Thanos.
  • In Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, the Baron Mordo of Earth-838 was the Sorcerer Supreme.
