Begmovireses are Single-stranded (ss) and circular genome particles make up begomoviruses (family: Geminiviradae). They are widely dispersed by whiteflies and present a major challenge to agricultural crops all over the world. The crops in Oman (beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, and watermelons) have been seriously harmed by them. The main focus of Oman's begomovirus research during the past few years has been on molecular characterization, phylogenetic relationships, recombination analyses, pathogenicity studies on model and host plants, and the development of transgenic plants with resistance. There has been some investigation on the relationship between begomoviruses and DNA satellites (alpha- and beta-satellite molecules). The most recent begomovirus discoveries in Oman over the past three decades are enumerated in this review, along with any associated DNA satellite discoveries. Agriculture techniques changed at this time, and viral detection methods progressed from morphological to genomic diagnostics to high throughput DNA sequencing. Millions of DNA molecules can be simultaneously sequenced thanks to this technology.
