In 1822 he married Catherine Price, of Moelfra, near Abergele; she died in 1835, and his elegy on her death is a pathetic and moving composition. His poetry, much of which was published in Welsh magazines, is of a high standard, and he was a successful eisteddfod competitor. Among his best-known compositions are 'Hiraeth ar ol mabolaeth,' awarded the prize at the Liverpool Gordovic eisteddfod, 1840, and 'Ymddiddan rhwng y bardd ac Amser.'
