English: The Topkapı Palace (literally the "Cannongate Palace" - named after a nearby gate), is located at the tip of a spit of land in the European part of Istanbul. It was built on the site of the old acropolis of Byzantion. It was the primary residence of the Ottoman sultans and their households, as well as the administrative center of the Ottoman Empire from 1465 to 1853. About 4,000 people resided in the palace.
Türkçe: Topkapı Sarayı, İstanbul'da yer alan ve dünyada günümüze gelebilmiş sarayların en eskisi ve genişidir.
