“Eeeeeeeeeh ho ho hooey!”

If you’re ever skiing and hear that yell, it’s a safe assumption that Goofy might be skiing somewhere near you, or perhaps just a novice skier. Some expert skiers feel that Goofy’s performance in The Art of Skiing, released on this day in 1941, is somewhat reminiscent of every skier’s initial ski attempts. Following the first “how to” cartoon, How to Ride a Horse, which was featured in The Reluctant Dragon, The Art of Skiing is the first stand-alone Goofy “how to” short, and it just snowballed from there with numerous others to follow. It’s also the first to feature that famous Goofy holler. Goofy’s current voice, Bill Farmer, told D23’s Scott Wolf, “I’ve had to do that hundreds of times, but that wasn’t [Goofy’s original voice] Pinto Colvig who originated it. That was from The Art of Skiing in 1941, and it was a yodeler by the name of Hannes Schroll. He did the yodeling in that a little bit and the ‘eee hooey.'”
