Euripides Laskaridis (1975, Athens) is a Greek film director and performer. He is known for exploring the elements of ridicule and transformation in his work, which spans both the theatre and film industries as well as site-specific productions and seminar workshops[1].

He was born in Athens on 6 July, 1975. He studied acting at the Karolos Koun Art Theatre[2] at the centre of Athens and then continued his studies at Brooklyn College in New York, with a scholarship from the Onassis Foundation[3]. In 2000 he began directing his own works, performances intended for the theatre stage, site-specific projects and short films. In 2009 he founded OSMOSIS, a performing arts company that has gained him worldwide recognition[4].

Since 1995 he has collaborated with artists such as Dimitris Papaioannou[5] [6] [7], Robert Wilson[8] [9] and Dionysis Savvopoulos[10]. In 2016 he received one of the inaugural Pina Bausch Foundation[11] fellowships and spent three months observing the director and choreographer Lemi Ponifasio, internationally. In 2017 he was recognized as a "Promising Talent" by the German magazine Tanz[12] and in 2022 he received the "Onassis Air" scholarship[13], from the Onassis Foundation, to support his artistic research[14].

He brings together practices from theatre, dance and the visual arts. Common, ordinary materials and everyday objects, which have lost their original usefullnes, often appear in his works, which tend to follow a non-linear narrative[15]. The grotesque element and the transformation concern him notably[16]. The alteration of the performer through the deformation and exaggeration of physical features is often used in his work as a means of highlighting his interest in a reconstruction of the genders[17].

OSMOSIS, in addition to a performing arts production company, is also the artistic platform of Euripides Laskaridis who, through it and with a central core of collaborators by his side, delves into everyday life and the collective subconscious. With imagination and absurdity as the main axes, OSMOSIS creates works that tour internationally, even years after their premiere day[18].

He has directed, choreographed and performed:

  • Relic[19] | 2015: the first stage production of the OSMOSIS group with an international tour
  • Titans[20] | 2017: international co-production that premiered at the Athens and Epidaurus Festival, 2017
  • Thirio[21] | 2018: performance for Athens Biennale  
  • Elenit[22] | 2019: international co-production that premiered at the Onassis Foundation in 2019
  • Here Not Here[23] | 2020: short documentary based on Elenit, created during the COVID-19 lockdown
  • Μαντω/Mando[24] | 2021: short film inspired by the life of Manto Mavrogenous, commissioned by the Greek National Opera
  • Tourné[25] | 2022: dance-theater performance presented at the Little Theatre of Ancient Epidaurus
