Deep Run High School (DRHS, Deep Run, DR) is named after Deep Run School in celebration of Henrico County Public Schools' 300 year old tradition of excellence in education. Deep Run School was one of the earliest schools in Henrico County; the original structure can be found on the grounds of Short Pump Elementary School.[1] Located at 4801 Twin Hickory Road in Short Pump, the Far West End suburb of Richmond, Deep Run's district encompasses several neighborhoods in the area including Twin Hickory (in which the school resides), Wyndham, Wellesley, Fox Hall, and Barrington.

In 2002, Deep Run opened its doors solely to freshmen and sophomores as the newest member of Henrico County's secondary schools. While freshmen entered from neighboring middle schools (Short Pump Middle School and Pocahontas Middle School), incoming sophomores predominantly transferred from John Randolph Tucker High School. Deep Run reached full capacity during its 2004-2005 academic year and graduated its first class on June 16, 2005.

The Center for Information Technology (CIT) is a Henrico County specialty center preparing students for higher education and careers in related fields of computer science and information technology.[2] Admission into the center is facilitated through an extensive application process for rising freshman. The Center allows its students to focus on a specialty of interest within the field of information technology. In addition, it offers realistic learning experiences throughout the community; most notably with its web design for non-profit organization projects and senior capstone internship. The Center is currently directed by Chairman Steve P. Long who replaced Doran McBride in 2004.

Deep Run Marching Wildcats

The Deep Run Marching Band has become well known in the few years that it has been in existence. It has held the title of VBODA Virginia Honor Band for four years in a row, which consists of winning two straight superior performances at VBODA Festivals. Previous shows have included "Latin and Jazz", "Follow the Dream", "Pirates of the Caribbean", "Spanish Fire", and "The Pursuit of Wealth, Beauty, and Happiness". The band also participated in the 2007 London New Year's Day Parade representing Virginia and its 400th birthday as a colony. This year's show is titled "tra-VELOCITY".

Videos of the band are available at:

The Deep Run Marching Band website can be found at www.DeepRunBand.org.

Orchestra

The Deep Run Orchestra is a relatively small orchestra. In early 2007, the orchestra competed in a local festival and received straight superior ratings (the highest honor possible). In March 2007, the orchestra traveled to Chicago, Illinois to compete in a national festival. The orchestra received a gold medal and a second place overall finish. In addition, the group was awarded a trophy distinguishing Deep Run as an orchestra of excellence.

Vocal Music

There are several student choirs at Deep Run which meet as a class during school, consisting of Cantate (women's select choir without freshmen), Voce Unificato (larger select women's choir with freshmen), Belle Voci (select mixed choir), Sound Steps (select show choir), and Cantar Bellamente (large non-select mixed choir). There also exist choirs which meet outside of class, including a women's quartet, a men's quartet, and a non-select men's choir.

Deep Run's choirs have performed all over the country and consistently earned superior ratings at competitions and festivals nationwide [citation needed].

Drama

Deep Run High offers four levels of Theater Arts classes (Theater Arts I, II, III, and IV, IV being for honors credit) for students as well as a stagecraft class, which is new for the 2006-2007 year. Within class, students study acting, playwriting, directing, technical theater, and theater history, the subject matter often depending upon whatever level the students are currently in.

Each school year, the Drama Department puts on a fall play, a spring musical, and a night of one-act plays in the winter (January or February). In the past, they have also put on various dinner theaters in the fall and spring. The one-acts are chosen and performed by each of the Theater Arts classes and presented in a one-night showcase. The one-act of the level III and IV class is taken to compete every year. Past shows (both mainstage and one-acts) include Into the Woods (Spring 2003), Pillow Talk (Fall 2003), Two by Two (Spring 2004), You Can't Take It With You (Fall 2004), Competition Piece (Winter 2005), A Simple Task (Winter 2005), Omnipotence and the Wheelbarrow Man (Winter 2005), Snow...Sort of...White (Winter 2005), Once Upon a Mattress (Spring 2005), Fools (Fall 2005), Fifteen Reasons Not to be in a Play (Winter 2006), Romeo and Juliet at Verona High (Winter 2006), High Stakes (Winter 2006), Governing Alice (Winter 2006), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat (Spring 2006), and It Happens Every Summer (Fall 2006), Square One (Winter 2007), Caution: Politricks (Winter 2007), No Show (Winter 2007), and The Mysterious Art of Advertising (Winter 2007). Future shows include Little Shop of Horrors (Spring 2007).

Deep Run offers students the opportunity to join its Drama Club, which is mainly occupied with organizing the school's annual talent show in May.

Deep Run is also affiliated with the International Thespian Society, and inducts new members with the appropriate number of hours of theater activity every May. The Deep Run ITS's primary job throughout the year is the planning and organization of the annual Mr. Deep Run Pageant in February/March.

This year, Deep Run created Drama Boosters to aid largely with financial matters and the production of mainstage shows.

Fight Song

"Wildcat Pride"[3]
Music arranged by Michael Pendowski
Lyrics by Anne Coldiron

[Verse 1]
Deep Run High, where Pride runs Deep.
Victory is ours to keep.
We will strive to be our best,
That puts pride above the rest!
Go Wildcats, Wildcats - Wildcat Pride!
Our loyalty is next to none.
That is why we're number one!
Come on, hold your head up high!
Shout the Wildcat victory cry!

Go Wildcats, Wildcats - Wildcat Pride!
W..I..L..D.. Wildcats, Wildcats - Wildcat Pride!

[Verse 2]
Deep Run High, where Pride runs Deep.
Victory is ours to keep.
We will strive to be our best,
That puts pride above the rest!
Go Wildcats, Wildcats - Wildcat Pride!
Our loyalty is next to none.
That is why we're number one!
With victory on our side,
We are the mighty pride!

[Verse 1]

Go Wildcats, Wildcats - Wildcat Pride!
C..A..T..S.. Wildcats, Wildcats - Wildcat Pride!

[Verse 2]

Go Wildcats, Wildcats - Wildcat Pride!
