Hey Sameboat, I'm sorry if you felt accused of synthesis in my edit summary; I was just referring to a policy to simply explain my rationale for removing content from sources unrelated to the article's topic. As for what you said to me: please don't assume bad faith or say that I must have been too determined to run propaganda to notice—we all make mistakes, and I missed the related sources in the mostly synthesized subsection (by the way, while I'm here: please keep the SYNTH policy in mind, especially as you edit contentious topics). In the end, the article is now better: violations of WP:SYNTH are gone, and relevant sources have been restored, so thanks for your edits and for notifying me that I removed relevantly-sourced content. You have recently edited a page related to the Arab–Israeli conflict, a topic designated as contentious. This is a brief introduction to contentious topics and does not imply that there are any issues with your editing.
A special set of rules applies to certain topic areas, which are referred to as contentious topics. Editors are advised to err on the side of caution if unsure whether making a particular edit is consistent with these expectations. Topics related to the Arab-Israel conflict are subject to a WP:1RR restriction, meaning that an editor must not perform more than one revert on a single page—whether involving the same or different material—within a 24-hour period. An edit or a series of consecutive edits that undoes or manually reverses other editors' actions—whether in whole or in part—counts as a revert.
In the past 24 hours, you have made three reverts:
- 02:33, 1 March 2024 - Remove repeated "Free Palestine!". Minor, and I wouldn't mention it absent the broader context, but still a revert.
- 03:26, 1 March 2024 - Revert from "Israel-Hamas war" to "war in Gaza". Which one to use is highly contentious, and have very different meanings - it was originally implemented in a switch from "Israeli-Palestine conflict".
- 10:46, 1 March 2024 and 11:09, 1 March 2024 - Restore lede image and "Media coverage" section
Please self-revert any 1RR violations that you can still revert - specifically, 03:26, 1 March 2024, 10:46, 1 March 2024, and 11:09, 1 March 2024.
In addition, please keep in mind WP:ONUS and WP:STATUSQUO; the onus is on the editor who wishes to move away from the status quo to get consensus, and best practice is to leave the content at the status quo while discussion proceeds- and in a contentious topic like this, particularly once an RfC has been opened, that "best practice" becomes almost "required practice".
