Dénes Várjon (born 23 February 1968) is a Hungarian pianist. Beside his solo career, he frequently performs as a chamber musician.
Biography
Born on 23 February 1968 in Budapest, Dénes Várjon studied since 1984 at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music[1] and graduated in 1991.[2] He was student of Sándor Falvai, György Kurtág and Ferenc Rados.[2] He attended master courses with András Schiff.[3] His chamber music partners have been Antje Weithaas[4] Steven Isserlis, Veronika Hagen, Leonidas Kavakos, András Schiff, Tabea Zimmermann and Jörg Widmann.[1]
Since 2018, Várjon is Principal Professor in the Kronberg Academy Study Programmes.[2] In 2020, he received the Kossuth Prize, Hungary's highest cultural award.[3] He is professor at the Liszt Ferenc Academy of Music.[1]
Várjon has recorded for Naxos, Capriccio and for Hungaroton Classics.[1]
