In 2004, the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals heard the case of Michael Bigelow v. Jesse Williams, Warden, in which inmate Bigelow maintained he was innocent of the charges of kidnapping and arson. On June 17, 1993, real estate agent Charlotte Schrier was kidnapped in [[Toledo, Ohio]] and asked to drive to a remote location where the assailant cut her with a razor blade before she escaped.
