The tenth season of American Idol is scheduled to premiere on January 12, 2011 on Fox. This will be the first season for which teenagers aged 15 may audition.[1] This will be the first season without Simon Cowell as a judge. It was announced on July 29, 2010 that Ellen DeGeneres will not return as a judge this season.[2] Randy Jackson will once again return as a judge and will be the sole original judge left on the show after the departure of Simon Cowell in 2010, and Paula Abdul in 2009. On July 29, 2010 TMZ had announced that current judge, Kara DioGuardi was rumoured to have been fired by executives from the show, however since the announcement there has been no official word from FOX as to whether or not she would return as a judge for the upcoming season. [3] Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler are consistently speculated to be the newest judges on the panel, however FOX and other executives and spokespeople have all declined to comment. [4]. It was announced that Nigel Lythgoe will return as an executive producer. [5][6]

This season will debut a signing by Universal Music Group's Interscope-Geffen-A&M Label to the winner.[7]
