The earliest recorded reference to Childwall was in the ''[[Domesday Book]]'' of 1086: "Four Radmans held Childwall as four [[Manorialism|Manors]]. There is half a [[Hide (unit)|hide]]. Childwall was traditionally part of the [[West Derby Hundred]].
