The synthetic opioid fentanyl has seen increasing usage in the American city of San Francisco, California since 2019.[1] In 2023, 810 people died from overdosing on Fentanyl in San Francisco.[2] In February 2024, 64 people died from unintentional drug overdoses.[3]
Reactions
In January 2024, the city of San Francisco began testing wastewater for fentanyl, other drugs such as amphetamine, cocaine, methamphetamine, and xylazine, and naloxone.[4]
