John Thomas Financial is an independent broker-dealer located in the Financial District of New York City. In 2009, John Thomas Financial moved its offices into 14 Wall Street, where as of 2009 it occupied the entire 23rd floor.[2] The firm was founded by Thomas Belesis, its current CEO, in 2007.[3] Initially a three-person brokerage, it now includes 200 representatives and staff and provides a range of retail brokerage, investment banking and corporate advisory services.[4] It most recently added a private wealth management affiliate.[5]

In addition to its functions as a retail brokerage, the firm also raises convertible debt for startups and new companies. According to its website, John Thomas Financial raised over $150 million for new businesses between 2007 and 2010.[6]

Leadership

The company President and CEO is Anastasios Thomas Belesis, is a frequent contributor to financial news shows. He played a role in the movie Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps which was partly filmed at John Thomas Financial. Belesis has used his media exposure to support the image of Wall Street, launching rallies and a website,[7] to improve the image of stock traders.[8]

Belesis has been recognized for his leadership with several official honors, the most notable of which are the 2009 Bronx GOP[vague] Man of the Year Award,[9] presented by Rudolph Giuliani, and his appointment to the Executive Board of the World Energy Forum.[10]
