Interesting Facts/Theories
In the opening scene as the camera scans her room, many characters from the film are visible as stuffed animals and dolls, such as Hoggle, Ludo, the Wild Gang creatures, Sir Didymus (the fox that rides the sheepdog) and Jareth, the Goblin King. In addition to these characters, other objects in her room that appear later in the film include a figurine girl in a white gown, a poster of MC Escher's staircases, a labyrinth marble game, and a series of fantasy books (including The Wizard of Oz, Snow White, Alice in Wonderland, and Where the Wild Things Are). This may suggest the magical world Sarah enters later is a place she imagines based on her childhood toys and stories. A scrap book is also briefly shown with pictures of her real mother and newspaper articles/playbills about her suggesting she was an actress. In one of the photos on her bedroom mirror, her mother is shown embracing David Bowie which could explain her manifestation of Jareth's character in her imaginary world.
