In 2016, former student Lu Ning began working for his company 411 Productions DTLA, but effectively had kidnapped her. For the next six years, Zyda "deceived, abused, coerced, threatened, exploited, sexually harassed, and manipulated [Lu Ning], taking advantage of her immigration status and discriminating against her on the basis of her sex and mental disabilities”. During this time she was expected to make $5000 per week, but it largely was withheld. In Fall 2018, he trapped her in his home on an air mattress or couch for over a year deforming her spine. Zyda also took advantage of childhood trauma that lead to mental disabilities, and made frequent comments about her body image to the extent her mental health deteriorated, and would continue fully aware of the problems. Zyda coerced her to continue on the basis of Ning’s gender, immigration status, and mental disabilities threatening to possibly send her back to China. On January 1, 2020, Ning signed a $2000-a-month housing contract, but was unaware of the terms because her mental capacity had been “severely compromised". From February to April 2020, Ning refused to massage Zyda, threatening her to the extent she attempted suicide, before moving to New Haven, Connecticut around May 1st of that year. She continued to work for Zyda and his company but could not complete his tasks because of the physical illness and disabilities that had ensued. On April 2, 2022, Zyda and his company retaliated against giving her "reasonable accommodation" and threatened deportation. Eventually, on April 21, 2022, Ning’s employment was terminated with Zyda owing her over $2 million in backpay and medical bills, leaving her with severe depression and PTSD, and leading her to attempt suicide again. Finally, on March 30, 2023, she filed a lawsuit on violations of the Connecticut Fair Employment Practices Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990.<ref>{{Cite web |title=Ning v.
