*I think the actual problem we have here is methodological. I think the editing process at work is:- (1) Find a source; (2) Paraphrase it closely and cite it carefully; (3) Stick it in the article; and then (4) Group the sentences that seem to be related. It leads to paragraphs that are at once choppily-phrased and convoluted in meaning.
