A tag has been placed on Častimir Timothy Majić requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. noq (talk) 11:47, 21 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hello! I'm a bot created by another Wikipedia editor. Although everyone is welcome to contribute to the encyclopedia, one or more of the external links you added to the page Mohammed Ali Abdallah do not comply with our guidelines for external links and have been removed. Please see my edit to Samuel Johnson (dramatist) to see how to add the "DNB Poster" for biographies, as well as fixing the cites. Thank you for your work. Revent (talk) 20:44, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

seems a little redundant here, but will use when not a cut and paste from DNB, i.e. " incorporates text". 198.24.31.118 (talk) 20:51, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

The purpose of the 'DNB Poster' is to remain after the article is converted from a 'stub' using cribbed text to a sourced article. The 'DNB' tag should then change to a 'DNB Cite' tag, which still gives the reference (if it's used as a ref by the article) without the 'incorporates text' foo.

Thank you for doing this, though. There are a /lot/ of broken DNB cites, and even without the poster, TBH what you are doing is more important. Revent (talk) 20:55, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

ok, i kinda prefer the box too. but given the numbers, i doubt there will be a dent in the numbers that are not cut and paste, any time soon. hard enough to just work through the uncited backlog. if you go from DNB, to cite DNB and box you will still have 2 interwiki links, meh. 198.24.31.118 (talk) 20:59, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Very true, that's why I liked seeing your edits (they scrolled past on the anti-vandalism filter, fyi, since you're an IP editor. Just in case you were curious where I came from). The "DNB cite" should only stay (under references) if the DNB is actually cited by the (new) article. Otherwise just the poster is correct. Consider the 'DNB Cite' as if it was a citation of the actual print book, but redirected to an electronic facsimile edition.

TBH, part of the reason why it's 'odd' is that the proper way of doing this has changed (with the creation of templates, posters, etc.) and page edits have obviously not caught up. Revent (talk) 21:06, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

it would be nice to have a semi-auto script, sort these in buckets, with template automatically sprinkled, so the eyes on were used on the amount of copying, rather than wasting time replicating code. 198.24.31.118 (talk) 21:11, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

It would be, and might be possible to do well, but name disambiguation is inherently hard to do with a computer, and would probably spit out even more incorrect foo that would be harder to find. It's an 'Authority Control' type of problem. (sorry if I ramble a bit, dunno how much you know about this) If you look at the Library of Congress card catalog, every person has a unique 'heading' that is the 'authorized' version of their name per LoC. When libraries around the world started making unified card catalogs, they created VIAF (www.viaf.org) which is a big computer auto-merge of the various national name authority files, and then WorldCat used VIAFs file (which already had massive amounts of duplicates due to things like variant spellings, ca. 1903- vs. 1903?-, etc) and merged it with even more catalogs. Just searching for an easy person such as a classical author like Virgil or Cicero shows how massively garbled that kind of thing can get. That's pretty much my understanding of why Wikipedia avoids it, and mostly sticks to manual page editing. The bots you see do /very/ limited things (like changing hyphens to em- or en-dashes). Revent (talk) 21:20, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

you'll find that a lot of these are the work of User:Charles Matthews, if you go through his history and categories, you should find a bunch for your "DNB Poster". 198.24.31.118 (talk) 21:31, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I'm WP:AGF and assuming you're checking these, and using your contrib history to do exactly that right now. Since I don't actually have to /check/ that they're valid links, I can cut and paste them pretty fast. :) I normally approach this kind of thing from the other direction, adding Template:Authority Control to biographies (and incidentally making the auto-searches on Worldcat work) and fixing the DNB entries as I come across them. Revent (talk) 21:36, 22 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

on further reflection, the pure cut and paste are obvious 90% of the time, but the 10% can be difficult to untangle, and then "cite DNB" applies. but there some with a mix of both, easy to get confused. and the false positives from ODNB are not a help. 198.24.31.118 (talk) 16:35, 7 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for this edit.

A piece of news there now exists a fully functioning {{Appletons}} template to complement the {{Cite Appletons'}} one. Their relationship is the same as that of {{EB1911}} and {{cite EB1911}}, and other similar pairs of templates.

All EB1911 articles on Wikisource now have volume information (and many of the late volumes either display page information or have it embedded as comments in the text. So if you make similar edits in the future please include |volume=number for EB1911 citations.

Please only place under a bold Attribution line those long citations for which text has been copied. If a source does not have an dedicated attribution template the same affect can be made using {{source-attribution}}. Other references should be placed above the Attribution line. So in this case it was probably better to leave the ==Notes== section in place and put {{Cite DNB}} and {{cite Appletons'}} below ==References== and above Attribution (see here). -- PBS (talk) 17:02, 11 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

ok, that was a tricky one, you could argue that the rewrite was not original enough, (flip coin between cite dnb and dnb). as you see, i was using attribution as a spot for long citations with short citations in refs, but i will follow your example. these cases are rare, much more common straight copy paste. 198.24.31.118 (talk) 15:15, 13 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

please review Wikipedia:WikiProject Infoboxes, Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Lists of works: "When a book is available online through a site such as Internet Archive, Project Gutenberg, or Google Books, it may be useful to provide a link to the book so readers can view it. There is no requirement either to add or remove such links. A link to a Google Book should only be added if the book is available for preview." i kept it in mind as i blew right through it, i view a block on this matter of policy, as a badge of honor. 198.24.31.118 (talk) 18:54, 16 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

I liked your changes to the Stephen of Lexington and John Lexington articles. Thanks!

Looks like you have been getting some flak above... don't be discouraged, while I think they make a good point or two, much of it sounds to me like, "You aren't doing it exactly the way I usually do it!" While there is value to standardizing how we do things, sometimes "better" is preferable to "nothing at all", which is what you get if all the new contributors get discouraged. Don't get discouraged! Brianyoumans (talk) 01:46, 17 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello. Please take cause when you tag names with an Alglicized pronunciation, that you shouldn't tag the IPA of the non-English pronunciation, because that is like claiming that this is the native non-English pronunciation, when it's not. It's just an anglicized pronunciation. If necessary, you can alternatively tag those to the {{respell}}, as they are intended for Anglicized pronunciations. Please, do not forget that IPA can be used to express pronunciations of any language, not just English. Thanks. I noticed that you tagged that article in that manner. --Mahmudmasri (talk) 16:06, 23 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm Oddbodz. I wanted to let you know that I undid one of your recent contributions, such as the one you made with this edit to Frank L. VanderSloot, because it didn’t appear constructive to me. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks.   Hello, I'm BracketBot. I have automatically detected that your edit to James Andrew Lewis may have broken the syntax by modifying 2 "[]"s. If you have, don't worry: just edit the page again to fix it. If I misunderstood what happened, or if you have any questions, you can leave a message on my operator's talk page.

Hello, I'm Velella. I noticed that you recently removed some content from Toi Derricotte, with this edit, without explaining why. In the future, it would be helpful to others if you described your changes to Wikipedia with an edit summary. If this was a mistake, don't worry, the removed content has been restored. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page. Thanks.  Velella  Velella Talk   17:03, 3 February 2014 (UTC) Reply

i did not remove it, i moved it down out of the lede. the lede needs to tell why she is notable not where she went to school. this article needs a major rewrite. you by reverting have now removed the bibliographic information that i added. 198.24.31.118 (talk) 17:09, 3 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I see you've changed the ref. style in this article. The refs were in fact satisfactory before, and it is generally deprecated (for which read, forbidden) to change the ref. style without extremely strong justification, not present in this case. Wikipedia is not a game and editing articles is not for your entertainment. Kindly do not do this again. Chiswick Chap (talk) 21:42, 15 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

you of course understand, that you reverted a link to wikisource with the reference material back to a version with a non-linked DNB "style". lol 198.24.31.118 (talk) 17:50, 25 February 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello, I'm XLinkBot. I wanted to let you know that I removed one or more external links you added to the page Nikolaus Brender, because they seemed to be inappropriate for an encyclopedia. If you think I made a mistake, or if you have any questions, you can leave me a message on my talk page, or take a look at our guidelines about links.
Your edit here to Nikolaus Brender was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove links which are discouraged per our external links guideline. The external link(s) you added or changed (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omwtlPcYUbg) is/are on my list of links to remove and probably shouldn't be included in Wikipedia. If the external link you inserted or changed was to a media file (e.g. a sound or video file) on an external server, then note that linking to such files may be subject to Wikipedia's copyright policy, as well as other parts of our external links guideline. If the information you linked to is indeed in violation of copyright, then such information should not be linked to. Please consider using our upload facility to upload a suitable media file, or consider linking to the original.
If you were trying to insert an external link that does comply with our policies and guidelines, then please accept my creator's apologies and feel free to undo the bot's revert. However, if the link does not comply with our policies and guidelines, but your edit included other, constructive, changes to the article, feel free to make those changes again without re-adding the link. Please read Wikipedia's external links guideline for more information, and consult my list of frequently-reverted sites. For more information about me, see my FAQ page. Thanks! --XLinkBot (talk) 17:59, 8 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

wow, removing an infobox, two references, and a youtube interview? is the bot programmer insane? 198.24.31.118 (talk) 18:10, 8 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did to Birgitta Jónsdóttir. Wikipedia is not a collection of links, nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include, but are not limited to, links to personal websites, links to websites with which you are affiliated (whether as a link in article text, or a citation in an article), and links that attract visitors to a website or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam guideline for further explanations. Because Wikipedia uses the nofollow attribute value, its external links are disregarded by most search engines. If you feel the link should be added to the page, please discuss it on the associated talk page rather than re-adding it.

Your recent editing history shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. You can post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

And note that the burden of justification of the links is on you. Take it to the talkpage and achieve consensus there. --Dirk Beetstra T C 18:09, 30 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

you edit warred with me, you 3RR'd no me. you reverted without discussion. 198.24.31.118 (talk) 18:12, 30 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
diff - that gives my justification. Your next revert would be the third. Again, the burden of justification of adding those links is on you. Achieve consensus on the talkpage, and please stop violating our pillars. --Dirk Beetstra T C 18:15, 30 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
i have zero interest in engaging with bad faith editors such as yourself. why don't you pontificate to someone who cares. 198.24.31.118 (talk) 18:27, 30 April 2014 (UTC)Reply
