Hi, OberRanks. I hope you've been doing well. I've noticed that we don't have anything on Wikipedia for a List of abbreviations of United States military ranks or something like that. I know that this is your field of expertise and I hope that you will consider creating it.Hoops gza (talk) 02:46, 16 April 2014 (UTC)Reply

There are a few tables already in existence for that. One of them is on my user page. -OberRanks (talk) 16:28, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi!

You uploaded File:USnuclearstrike.jpg in 2010. I see that the source is the Federal Emergency Management Agency, but that says little about the context where it was found. I wanted to verify what the colors meant, but I haven't been able to find the image together with that information. Where did you get the image, more precisely? Sjö (talk) 22:29, 24 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

P.S., the image you linked above is actually a dead link which needs to be deleted. The current image is File:US nuclear strike map.svg. Theres a procedure to delete dead images, but my knowledge is not very high on how to do it. -OberRanks (talk) 17:43, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
I know, but it's the file that's closest to the original source. Sjö (talk) 18:54, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
It was out of a very old manual (published 1974), republished in 1984 as part of FEMA's disaster preparatory program for the Washington DC area. The dark areas were radiation. I updated the image page with all of this information. Hope that helps! -OberRanks (talk)
Actually, no. It's still not possible to verify the source. What's the name of the manual and where was it published? Where can it be found today? Sjö (talk) 17:04, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply
I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed when it comes to Wiki Commons Images. I entered all the data I know about the image on that site. The disaster book the map originally came from could probably be easily requested from FEMA since its all declassified pubs now. The address is FEMA, 500 C St SW, Washington, DC 20472 and the phone is (202) 646-2500. Best. -OberRanks (talk) 17:39, 27 May 2014 (UTC)Reply

That was uploaded ten years ago. :-) I think its a dead image and should be deleted. -OberRanks (talk) 20:32, 10 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

You forgot to add persondata and a defaultsort for this person. - Hoops gza (talk) 23:47, 24 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that you've added some links pointing to disambiguation pages. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

I see from Talk:General of the Armies#Verifiable six-star insignia? that you have seen some plans for a proposed six-star rank insignia. Can you remember if the plans show several options, as shown at: http://www.usmilitariaforum.com/forums/index.php?/topic/184041-us-navy-style-6-star-admiral-shoulder-board-prototype/, or is the six stars of equal size five in a circle and one in the middle the only image in the archive? Thanks. DrKiernan (talk) 07:37, 18 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

That's a very cool picture, and yes, that design was in the package I received from the IOH. Sorry I haven't updated the article; I'm full speed ahead trying to get a book published so a lot of Wiki work was put to the side. An excellent find, however, great picture. -OberRanks (talk) 14:57, 18 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hello, OberRanks. You may wish to translate the German de:Ernst-Heinrich Schmauser to help you with this article. Also, you forgot to add persondata and defaultsort. - Hoops gza (talk) 04:28, 22 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Greetings, again. Might you know what SS rank Albert Speer obtained? It is not mentioned in his article. - Hoops gza (talk) 23:55, 25 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

I actually talk about that in a book I'm writing. Believe it or not, I'm prohibited by contract from discussing Speer's SS membership on Wikipedia. Its actually quite a big subject in academic circles. Check the book stores next year for the answer! -OberRanks (talk) 14:05, 26 September 2014 (UTC)Reply

Check out this new page. I am not sure we really need it given all the similar pages as shown listed on the article page: Nazi party paramilitary ranks and on the page Comparative officer ranks of World War II. Kierzek (talk) 16:14, 1 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Very nice. We should do some merging as well. I noticed on the paramilitary ranks page, it has Bannführer listed as the equivalent of a Major General and HJ-Scharführer listed as a Lieutenant which is clearly incorrect. Clean-up is needed. -OberRanks (talk) 16:40, 1 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
It needs detail work and better formatting, as well. BTW-have you seen this: SS-Volksmarschall. Kierzek (talk) 22:06, 2 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yes...V-Marshall. Under contract on that one to not write about it on Wikipedia. My upcoming book has some significant material on it. Can't post what I have on Mann (military rank) either....found some fascinating stuff. -OberRanks (talk) 12:57, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
I had heard of V-Marshall before, but can't recall too much about it. BTW-don't forget my copy of your book, when it comes out. ;) Kierzek (talk) 18:23, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

If we can figure out a way to friend on Facebook, I have some interesting material there. A long time ago, I knew how to send private messages on Wikipedia, but have long since forgotten how to do it. -OberRanks (talk) 22:53, 3 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

You can send me an email through my Wikipedia page if you wish. If not, no problem. Kierzek (talk) 02:58, 8 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

How dare you accuse my translation work as copy and paste. I have taken the liberty on several occasions to translate German material upon request. That article was translated in fact, as a favor to Hoopsgza. It also has additional research I added to strengthen it atop the German sources. The fact that you make such an assumption has offended me to the Nth degree. Have you consulted with me before making an open accusation. Do you know my credentials? As a result - I refuse to translate anything else from German for Wikipedia. Just because non-academic 12 year olds come to Wikipedia and pull this garbage does not give you the right to make such assumptions. I want you to prove to me that this was plagiarized as I can unequivocally show you my original work by way of e-mail. The reason for one edit is me simply transferring the translated work en-masse - including my own added academic substantiation. You are WAY out of line. WAY ! I am super offended here buckaroo --Obenritter (talk) 22:42, 16 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Oh - by the way - go to my Talk Page and look at the request from Hoops gza as evidence and then look at the dates of the edit. --Obenritter (talk) 22:47, 16 October 2014 (UTC) Additional proof that you're off base is clear in the fact that you don't know the difference between word-for-word translations and the work on that page. It is clearly a translation of meaning and not some cut and paste. What nerve!!! --Obenritter (talk) 22:51, 16 October 2014 (UTC)Reply
