Wikipedia:Requested moves - Wikipedia
Article Images
Requested moves is a process for requesting the retitling (moving) of an article, template, or project page on Wikipedia. For retitling files, categories and other items, see When not to use this page.
Please read the article titling policy and the guideline regarding primary topics before moving a page or requesting a page move.
Any autoconfirmed user can use the Move function to perform most moves (see Help:How to move a page). If you have no reason to expect a dispute concerning a move, be bold and move the page. However, it may not always be possible or desirable to do this:
- Technical reasons may prevent a move; for example, a page may already exist at the target title and require deletion, or the page may be protected from moves. See: § Requesting technical moves.
- Requests to revert recent, undiscussed, controversial moves may be made at WP:RM/TR. If the new name has not become the stable title, the undiscussed move will be reverted. If the new name has become the stable title, a requested move will be needed to determine the article's proper location.
- A title may be disputed, and discussion may be necessary to reach consensus: see § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves. The requested moves process is not mandatory, and sometimes an informal discussion at the article's talk page can help reach consensus.
- A page should not be moved and a new move discussion should not be opened when there is already an open move request on a talk page. Instead, please participate in the open discussion.
- Unregistered and new (not yet autoconfirmed) users are unable to move pages.
Requests are generally processed after seven days. If consensus to move the page is reached at or after this time, a reviewer will carry out the request. If there is a consensus not to move the page, the request will be closed as "not moved". When consensus remains unclear, the request may be relisted to allow more time for consensus to develop, or the discussion may be closed as "no consensus". See Wikipedia:Requested moves/Closing instructions for more details on the process.
Wikipedia:Move review can be used to contest the outcome of a move request as long as all steps are followed. If a discussion on the closer's talk page does not resolve an issue, then a move review will evaluate the close of the move discussion to determine whether or not the contested close was reasonable and consistent with the spirit and intent of common practice, policies, and guidelines.
Separate processes exist for moving certain types of pages, and for changes other than page moves:
- Making an uncontroversial move – if you can, be bold and do it yourself! If you can't, see § Requesting technical moves.
- Renaming a category – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming a stub template – propose the move at Wikipedia:Categories for discussion.
- Renaming an image or other file – see Wikipedia:Moving a page § Moving a file page.
- Moves from draft namespace or user space to article space – Unconfirmed users: add
{{subst:submit}}
to the top of the article. See Wikipedia:Articles for creation. Confirmed users: Move the page yourself. - Merging two articles – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed mergers, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Splitting an article – make a request at Wikipedia:Proposed article splits, or be bold and do it yourself.
- Requesting that page histories be merged – list them at Wikipedia:Requests for history merge.
- Contesting a move request close – use the Wikipedia:Move review process.
Autoconfirmed editors may move a page without discussion if all of the following apply:
- No article exists at the new target title;
- There has been no previous discussion about the title of the page that expressed any objection to a new title; and
- It seems unlikely that anyone would reasonably disagree with the move.
If you disagree with a prior bold move, and the new title has not been in place for a long time, you may revert the move yourself. If you cannot revert the move for technical reasons, then you may request a technical move.
Move wars are disruptive, so if you make a bold move and it is reverted, do not make the move again. Instead, follow the procedures laid out in § Requesting controversial and potentially controversial moves.
Only list proposals here that are clearly uncontroversial but require administrator help to complete (for example, spelling and capitalization fixes). Do not list a proposed page move in this section if there is any possibility that it could be opposed by anyone. Please list new requests at the bottom of the list in this section and use {{subst:RMassist|Old page name|Requested name|Reason for move}} rather than copying previous entries. The template will automatically include your signature. No edits to the article's talk page are required.
If you object to a proposal listed here, please re-list it in the #Incomplete and contested proposals section below.
With the exception of a brief description of the problem or objection to the move request, please do not discuss move requests here. If you support an incomplete or contested move request, please consider following the instructions above to create a full move request, and move the discussion to the "Other Proposals" section below. Requests that remain incomplete after five days will be removed.
- The Wire (disambiguation) → The Wire — There are multiple articles that could all be called "The Wire" -- requiring disambiguation. About a year ago someone went through the steps of conducting a survey over whether one of those pages -- one about an American TV show, deserved pride of place, and that the disambiguation page should be moved form "The Wire" to "The Wire (disambiguation)". Only one respondent favored this move. So the move didn't happen in 2007. But in September 2008 someone initiated this move, without addressing the earlier poll, or initiating a discussion on the other page. I am listing this request under uncontroversial proposals because it would be reversing a move that did not follow policy. Here is the earlier poll those involved in the recent move ignored. - Mightn't it be best to discuss it properly now, rather than quickly reverting? A year has passed since the previous discussion, after all. And over a month has passed since the page was moved, without anyone objecting. 87.113.104.135 (talk) 20:43, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Jonathan Plowman Jr. → Jonathan Plowman (Discuss)— I’ve looked at the source citations in the article and can’t find a single instance of his being referred to as Jr. The Jonathan Plowman page already redirects to Jonathan Plowman Jr. GcSwRhIc (talk) 14:56, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- La Forza → Laforza — correct name --82.55.86.218 (talk) 13:53, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Incomplete. 81.98.251.134 (talk) 14:26, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Yue Chinese → Cantonese (language topic) —(Discuss)— Yue Chinese is not a proper name. It is not the commonly used English name for Cantonese. It is only used by few people. It is not familiar to normal English users. Meanwhile it may refer to Cantonese people. See discussion page1 and discussion page 2. --Newzebras (talk) 14:21, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Edred of England → Eadred of England —(Discuss)— Britannica and Encarta both spell this king's name "Eadred". --Angus McLellan (Talk) 12:29, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology → S.M.A.R.T. —([[Talk:Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology#{{{Requested move}}}|Discuss]])— As per WP:NC, "Titles should be brief without being ambiguous" --Hm2k (talk) 10:47, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Le Cœur a ses raisons → Le cœur a ses raisons - according to typographical conventions of titles in French (see fr:WP:CT), nouns after an initial Le, La or Les should be capitalized, except if the title is a full sentence, which is the case here. Mro (talk) 06:52, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of Women → Minister of Canadian Heritage —(Discuss)— "Minister of Canadian Heritage" has been in use longer, and is the current title as of the latest cabinet shuffle. Minister of Canadian Heritage and Status of women can be split off later if necessary. - Gordon Ecker (talk) 06:21, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- minister of state (Canada) → Minister of State (Canada) —(Discuss)— The proper title capitalizes both Minister and State. Minister of State (Canada) currently redirects to minister of state (Canada). - Gordon Ecker (talk) 06:12, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- MCG 3- 8- 2 → IC 1838 —(Discuss)— This is the listed name according to SIMBAD [1], and the current name is bad however you look at it. --70.55.86.100 (talk) 05:44, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- FDGB Pokal → FDGB-Pokal —(Discuss)— As the German Cup is found under DFB-Pokal, following the German name, it would only be logical to use the hyphenated form that is correct in German here as well. --Madcynic (talk) 20:14, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Usagi-chan de Cue → Usagi-chan de Cue!! —(Discuss)— Consistency's sake for this one; it's a Japanese title precedented by Amaenaideyo!! and Negima!? on Wikipedia. --Geopgeop (T) 02:08, 31 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Ceradyne BULL → The BULL vehicle —(Discuss)— The Bull vehicle is trademarked by Ideal Innovations (as cited in the article), so it shouldn't be attributed to Ceradyne. If anything, the vehicle should be attributed to Ideal Innovations in the title since they own the vehicle. --Ideal3231 (talk) 20:13, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Mezquita de Córdoba→ Great Mosque of Cordoba (Discuss) should be moved to the common English name Great Mosque of Cordoba in accord with WP:NAME policy: Use English words. I don't think this is very controversial, but it requires an administrator (editor?) , I tried to move it but the move was blocked.Historicist (talk) 19:07, 30 October 2008 (UTC)Historicist[reply]
- Call girl → Escort —(Discuss)— This Expression is being called for men & women.Elmondo21st (talk) 13:59, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- History of the Syriac Christians → History of the Assyrian people —(Discuss)— Page needs to be moved back to its original name. The most common name for this group of people in the English language is Assyrian people and not Syriac Christians. MOD moved the page with no discussion. --Chaldean (talk) 11:34, 30 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Đeravica → Djeravica —(Discuss)— To comply with our naming conventions by limiting ourselves to follow the name or form commonly used in English-language publications. Examples of usage listed in the -still short- talk page. --Ev (talk) 18:36, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- No. XIX Squadron RAF → No. 19 Squadron RAF —(Discuss)— Use Arabic numerals instead of Roman for squadron number, for consistency with other squadron numbers and in accordance with common usage --Letdorf (talk) 12:09, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Milano (racing team) → Scuderia Milano —(Discuss)— better name for the article --DH85868993 (talk) 07:48, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Bathroom attendant → Toilet attendant —(Discuss)— Using the word "bathroom" to refer to a toilet is only standard in US English. Using the word "toilet" is unambiguous in any English dialect, and is probably much less confusing for non-native English speakers. --Trxi (talk) 07:05, 29 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- I Evighet → I evighet —(Discuss)— Norwegian titles should be lowercase - see here --Sims2aholic8 (Michael) (talk) 23:40, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Entertaining Mr Sloane → Entertaining Mr. Sloane —(Discuss)— in compliance with wp:name. current rendering is as used in stylised promotional artwork. --emerson7 22:09, 28 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Oppose: As detailed on the talk page, the current rendering is absolutely not stylistic nor anything to do with the artwork. Proposer has already ignored invitations to consult any of the long list of critical literature on the subject, all of which give the current form, as does the copyright notice and all other references in the work itself. - Heather (disambiguation) → Heather —(Discuss)— Heather now redirects to Heather (disambiguation), so current name not needed. --Richard New Forest (talk) 14:34, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Hop (plant) → Humulus —(Discuss)— Article covers all species in genus, and should therefore be named as the genus, as recommended by WP:NC (flora). Humulus is currently a redirect. --Richard New Forest (talk) 14:34, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Incomplete; no place for discussion. On the whole, I would prefer to leave this alone, with perhaps a stub on the genus and its relationships after WP:Flora's example of Coffee/Coffea; all these plants are hops. Septentrionalis PMAnderson 15:21, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Apologies: discussion not clearly labelled as it grew out of earlier discussions: now headed Talk:Hop (plant)#Requested move. Richard New Forest (talk) 22:46, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Ranger (disambiguation) → Ranger —(Discuss)— There is no primary usage of the word "Ranger". I have moved the previous "Ranger" to Ranger (usage), which explains the history and usage of the word. This dab page needs to be at Ranger. It also needs some tidying up, and removal of irrelevant entries such as "Ranger districts", but that's another issue! --PamD (talk) 12:23, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Template:Literature of Turkey → Template:Turkish Literature —(Discuss)— Literature of Turkey could mean also Kurdish, Zaza, Armenian, Laz, Greek literature from Turkey but the template is focused on Turkish literature. So this is discriminatory. 2) Some of these poets where from Iraq (Fizuli) or outside of the modern boundary of the country Turkey. 3) There are Ottoman Turkish poets outside of the country of Turkey and even from the Balkans. 4) All such Wikipedia templates tie literature with language. 5) Turkish Literature is a much more common name and in authoritative Encyclopedias like Encyclopedia of Islam, the term Turkish literature is used rather than literature of Turkey. --Nepaheshgar (talk) 12:20, 27 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- Chair (official) → Chairman —(Discuss)— Article is now well-referenced, and "Chairman" is the preferred term by many references. It was named "Chair" without the benefit of this information. Lou Sander (talk) 19:24, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Gadsby (book) → Gadsby (novel) —(Discuss)— per WP naming conventions. (This is not a non-fiction book.) --—Ed 17 for President Vote for Ed 15:50, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Large number of rocketry-related articles —(discuss)— In order to clean up inconsistent naming of articles about rockets, it has been proposed to move a large number of articles in order to standardise the naming format. A list of pages that will be directly affected, and details of the proposal can be found here, as it is too long to list on this page. --GW_SimulationsUser Page | Talk 09:06, 26 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

- (Discuss) -- There is no primary topic for Plymouth. Given the widely known automobile mark, certainly the small city in England (less than 250,000 in population) currently at Plymouth is not it. The guidelines for naming English cities clearly dictate that "disambiguated place names should go under [[placename, ceremonial county]], so in this case the English city needs to be moved to Plymouth, Devon to make room for the dab page at Plymouth. --Serge (talk) 23:50, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
- Grand Theft Auto Advance → Grand Theft Auto (GBA) —(Discuss)— While the "Advance" does appear on the title screen, every other reference (including the boxart and the link on the publishers site) just call it "Grand Theft Auto". The only time they ever use "Advance" is when they want to clarify that they are talking about this version and not the first GTA or the GBC version. --TJ Spyke 14:33, 23 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]
