Ihcoyc

I discovered by chance that Ihcoyc is not listed as an administrator...a fact I found so mind-boggling I checked three times to be sure. My experience working with Ihcoyc is that he is a very good contributor here who is dedicated to producing fine articles and building a solid, usable resource that is NPOV and well-written. He's been here since January with 4,100+ contributions: I hereby nominate Ihcoyc for admin. Jwrosenzweig 23:38, 13 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Secretlondon

  • I nominate User:Secretlondon. While she's only been here a bit over 2 months, Secretlondon has already made thousands of contributions, large and small, has quickly caught on to Wikipedia conventions, works well with others, and often blanks graffitti and similar nonsence. • My God! What a way to start a day! Well, i thank everybody for support, encoragment and ego-boosting. Its very nice indeed to see my work acknowledged by so many wikipeers, when i'm used to see my friends and family get bored to death with my research on these topics. But i have my reservations about this. Its not that i dont want, i do!, but the thing is that i have a PhD to do. In Geology, not the Romans... I spend already too much time on the wiki without further excuse. I'm afraid the only task i would do is to delete junk and perhaps cooperate in the Main Page editing (I dislike edit wars and i do not wish to get involved in mess by protecting/unprotecting pages.) But... this makes me very proud! Muriel Gottrop 10:12, 30 Oct 2003 (UTC)
    • Let me think about this... Muriel Gottrop 10:18, 30 Oct 2003 (UTC)
      • You don't need to be Super-Admin, just do your bit for making Wikipedia rule :) But, the decision is up to you. Dysprosia 10:25, 30 Oct 2003 (UTC)
    • OK lets give it a try! How does this work now? Muriel
      • A developer will sysop-fy you in a few days. Then, you can do the "delete junk" when you catch one, and do some "Main Page editing" when you feel it needs some. There are over 100 sysops, so the work isn't yours alone. There's plenty of time for other stuff. :-) --Menchi 22:24, 31 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Daniel Quinlan

It would be nice to be able to help people out more often and handle trivial problems. I can't claim I plan to use administrator rights every day, but it seems to be at least once a week or so that I wish I could address something, but have to wait and let someone else fix it (like deleting a redirect, for example). I won't abuse administrator status or make use it in any article where I've been actively involved, in an active disagreement with people, etc. I've been a Wikipedia contributor since Dec 6, 2002 and have made 1317 non-minor edits since I started. That's about 4 per day. I think I've made some particularly good contributions on United States Presidential line of succession, Synthetic fibers (and sub-articles), English language (and related articles), and elsewhere (well, I think most (nobody's perfect) of my edits are great ;-). I was also quite involved in the discussion around advertizing and when redirects can be deleted, so I've been around and involved for quite a while. Daniel Quinlan 07:42, Oct 21, 2003 (UTC)

Arwel Parry

I've been here since the end of January, and have only managed to be involved in one edit war (with Eloquence over date formats in 10 Rillington Place). I'm not the most prolific author, but those I do write tend to be quite, um, encyclopaedic (see most of the denomination articles off British coinage for example, or British banknotes (the interest in money comes from not having much!)), and I've also got a bit of a spelling fetish, hence quite a lot of minor typo edits. I'm also the sole admin over on cy.wikipedia. Arwel 14:20, 9 Oct 2003 (UTC)

  • Support. I'm sure Arwel would be a great admin. Angela 15:26, Oct 9, 2003 (UTC)
  • Support. Coins, stamp, spelling fetish. Good things. --Menchi 21:53, 9 Oct 2003 (UTC)
  • Also support - Hephaestos 21:59, 9 Oct 2003 (UTC)
  • Support - just recently I had occasion to notice Arwel's attention to detail and was most impressed. Jwrosenzweig 22:09, 9 Oct 2003 (UTC)
  • Oppose: Sysops shouldn't get into edit wars. However, if Eloquence votes to support, I will toggle my vote to support. --Uncle Ed 22:22, 9 Oct 2003 (UTC)
    • Ah, the joys of irony! My point being that as I've only been in 1 edit war, I don't go looking for them (and I didn't start that one). As the outcome was that we got date formats made a user preference, I think I can safely claim that most people were happy with the result of it :) Arwel
    • So you're asking that Eloquence (and probably most sysops, myself included) be de-opped for being involved in an edit war? We look for good behavior with the hope that this good behavior continues when one is a sysop. Deteriorating behavior once a user gains this status should not be permitted. --Jiang 23:01, 9 Oct 2003 (UTC)
    • Edit wars can't always be avoided, sadly, for example, when not reverting a certain change for too long would mean that work that has already been done needs to be done again. In any case, I don't see that as sufficient reason to oppose Arwel's sysop status.—Eloquence 10:50, Oct 10, 2003 (UTC)
  • Support: a solid contributor, I'me surprised he isn't one already G-Man 22:56, 9 Oct 2003 (UTC)
  • Support. I've known Arwel elsenet for quite a while, and he's sensible and calm. (As a side note, if we de-sysop'd everyone who's ever been in an edit war, there'd be almost no sysops left, and Ed wouldn't be one of them. I probably wouldn't either.) Vicki Rosenzweig 23:16, 9 Oct 2003 (UTC)
  • Support. About 1000 edits going back to February. Re: edit wars, "Let him who is without sin cast the first stone" Fuzheado

    • Is this still on ;-) ? --snoyes 18:29, 7 Oct 2003 (UTC)
    • It can take some time. The developers seem to like to do this in large batches. -- Cyan
      • I see, thanks for the answer. --snoyes 18:37, 7 Oct 2003 (UTC)
        • It took over two weeks in my case. Enjoy the wait. :) -- sugarfish 03:58, 8 Oct 2003 (UTC)
          • A well-defined policy would make me slightly less anxious about doing this myself. What should the minimum listing time be? How many people need to give their assent? Snoyes is a now sysop, BTW. -- Tim Starling 04:54, Oct 8, 2003 (UTC)
        • According to comments made to me by User:Notheruser and User:Angela while I was in sysop-promotion limbo, promotion requires two other users voicing support. I'm not sure how things are resolved if someone voices dissent. -- Cyan 05:17, 8 Oct 2003 (UTC)

Jakenelson

I know I haven't been here long, so I can understand if people say no, but I've become quite the addict here... and I'm tired of having revert wars with anon IP vandals (12.65.43.243, 68.5.127.81, I think another I've forgotten), plus I'd like to be able to delete utter junk pages myself. (On a semi-separate side note (noticing past namechanges at point of adminship), I wonder if it'd be possible for my username to be changed to Jake? It's listed as in use, but the user's made no edits. If not, I'd kind of prefer Jake Nelson to my current Jakenelson.) Thanks, Jake 10:53, 2003 Sep 20 (UTC)

Can I be an Admin please? Well, I'm fairly new here (about 3 months) and I'm completely hooked. There's no real rhyme or reason to what I edit, but I'm working my way through 80s music... slowly, and doing a lot of good stuff with American History, which ain't bad for a Brit! John Kenney, aka jlk7e

Hey, so why is nobody nominating me? I kick ass! Come on. eh? eh? (Actually, I doubt I would really do much with sysop rights, except occasionally delete pages, but whatever. I'm deeply offended that I've made so little impact here that nobody else has nominated me, so I've been forced to take action ;-) john 02:46, 3 Sep 2003 (UTC)

  • Support, I always thought he was one anyway! Adam Bishop 00:58, 4 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • Ambivalent -- I am prejudiced against hard-to-remember user names. When I first kicked off the "let's recruit a heck of a lot of sysops" campaign earlier this year, I thought we could agree that sysops should have READILY RECOGNIZABLE user names. (I don't mean to sound nasty, but I want to point out that part of TRUST is that people know that they can trust you; they have to know who you are, to be able to do that.) user:LittleDan changed from something like anon2984 (with a little nudging from me) because of this. Anyway, I don't think I should both VOTE ON and RUN THE SQL TO PROMOTE new admins, so just consider this me letting off some steam... --Uncle Ed 17:00, 4 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • Although unlikely, it's theoretically possible it could actually be meant to be pronouncable, I think some people use 3 and 7 as letters, when the arabic letters aren't available, to represent some non-english sounds. (Know 3 is, not completely sure about 7.) Ксип Cyp 11:03, 9 Sep 2003 (EDT)
      • Sorry to disappoint, but it's nothing so exotic as that. "jlk7e" was the email address I was assigned in college, and I've generally used it for ids thereafter, because it's easy for me to remember. (At UVA, all emails are your initials, a random number, and a random letter.) I'd be happy to change my user name to something else, but I don't know how. john 14:02, 9 Sep 2003 (EDT)
        • I think you just need to ask a developer to do it. Tim recently changed SH's user name, so it's possible. Angela 14:14, 9 Sep 2003 (EDT)
          • Nothing as fancy as that -- Just log in under a new name and redirect your old ID to the new one. Mention your old id on your new page, in case someone needs to dig into your history -- for vandalism or something like that ;)-戴&#30505sv(easy to remember)
  • Yes, I can change jlk7e's username. All the article histories will be updated to point to the new username. And I would be happy to make him a sysop once it is done, assuming the new name is acceptable. -- Tim Starling 08:15, Sep 17, 2003 (UTC)

Paul A

Can I be an admin, please? I haven't been here an extraordinarily long time - just over half a year, I think - but the record shows (I hope) that I can be trusted with the powers, and it would really save time if I didn't have to track down an admin every time I came across a badly renamed page, which I seem to do with surprising regularity. (Woo. Long sentence.) —Paul A 02:04, 12 Sep 2003 (UTC)

  • I second this. Paul seems to be a very trustworthy Wikipedian. Angela 02:14, Sep 12, 2003 (UTC)

Modemac

I've been hooked on Wikipedia since I stumbled across it in August of 2002. After more than a year of contributing, I figure it's time to throw my hat into the ring and ask for permission to be a moderator.

I promise to repeal the 2001 tax cuts, increase international cooperation in Iraq...errr, umm, wrong message.  :)

Actually, I'm hoping that my conduct over the past year has been sufficient to show that I intend to use NPOV in a manner that will hopefully prevent heated rivalries (and worse) in the more controversial subjects, as I've tried to do with my additions to the Scientology articles. I also enjoy pop culture, and I intend to keep updating such life-changing subjects as movie and cartoon related articles, along with forays into topics related to skepticism, pseudoscience, and cults. --Modemac 15:14, 8 Sep 2003 (UTC)

Nanobug (Wikiquote)

I was recently made a sysop for Wikipedia. Could I also become a sysop for Wikiquote as I have made over 400 edits there and wish to move some protected pages to the correct namespace. See also Wikiquote:Requests for adminship. Thanks. Nanobug 00:16, 4 Sep 2003 (UTC)

I second.-戴&#30505sv 08:05, Sep 11, 2003 (UTC)

Jwrosenzweig

  • User:Jwrosenzweig has made nearly 300 edits since last month. He cares about WP enough to ask directions on how to deal with a newbie's behaviour on the Pump, then talk with the newbie. A very adminesque job he has done. I like his attitude too. Not aggressive and quite humble of his knowledge. --Menchi 09:03, Aug 21, 2003 (UTC)
    • Support. Jwrosenzweig would make a valuable addition to the group of admins if he accepts the responsibility. He gives and recieves advice graciously. All in all the model of what a good admin should be. -- Cimon Avaro on a pogostick
    • Support. User_talk:Fantasy#Thanks! and other of his actions/comments indicate that he would make a great addition to Wikipedia Adminship. And: I could not find nealy any thing he did without Summary. I like that ;-) -- Fantasy 11:47, 21 Aug 2003 (UTC)
      • I have no idea how many votes one needs to be given adminship, but I thought it was time to note that, should it be the decision of my fellow editors, I would be honored to be a sysop, and pledge to use my powers sparingly. I am slightly reluctant to do so, partially because I am relatively new here, and partially because I worry that I will not be a frequent enough contributor to warrant this distinction. Thanks to those of you who nominated me: truly an unexpected delight. Jwrosenzweig 04:04, 26 Aug 2003 (UTC)

Dysprosia

I nominate Dysprosia. Does a lot of housekeeping stuff like blanking tests/profanity/etc., so would benefit from being able to delete articles. Also makes many NPOV edits, and generally seems to have a good grasp on how things should go around here. --Delirium 10:26, Aug 27, 2003 (UTC)

  • My feeling says: Support. 800 Edits in August alone, wow. And what I saw looked good. Two things I am not 100% sure, but this are things that can be solved:
    • July 2 begin of contributions
    • Only half of the edits have comments. I feel better, if you add just a short comment, even if minore edits.
  • Support. Good work editing, stays NPOV, polite, etc. I agree that anyone already doing so much housekeeping/clean-up would probably be a helpful admin. Although only a member for a while, the contribution record speaks for itself. Paige 21:39, 27 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • I've noticed Dysprosia out there, fighting the good fight. Support. --Dante Alighieri 13:47, 28 Aug 2003 (UTC)
  • Excellent choice. Does much good work already, without even being a sysop. A definite gain for Wikipedia to have him her as an administrator. -- Cimon Avaro on a pogo-stick 14:16, Aug 28, 2003 (UTC)

I most humbly accept :) Thanks for all your support! (And I've started putting comments in my edits too :) Dysprosia 01:08, 29 Aug 2003 (UTC)

  • Gotta support this guy/lady if s/he's willing to change for WP! And he said he'd do some diagrams (#To do)! --Menchi 01:58, 4 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • Support. I'm surprised he/she hasn't been made an admin yet.Vancouverguy 02:01, 4 Sep 2003 (UTC)
  • Support: I just deleted a page blanked by him her. Ксип Cyp 04:41, 9 Sep 2003 (EDT)
Hey, thanks all of you again! Its so sweet of you all to say all nice stuff about me (a she, btw, but its no biggie) :) Dysprosia
The <expletive> it isn't. Here, have the halves of my broken sword, as I kneel before you. -- Cimon Avaro on a pogo-stick
Oh, shush: *stickytapes them back together and hands it back to you* :) Dysprosia 05:12, 9 Sep 2003 (EDT)
Another support - I already deleted so many pages blanked by him before, so I am surprised he isn't made admin yet. andy 04:59, 9 Sep 2003 (EDT)

Patrick

  • User:Patrick has made some 8000+ edits since January 2003. I have seen him make numerous factual corrections to the various country lists and country articles, and his contribution record shows good solid edits on many other articles. --Jiang 07:23, 13 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • Huh? You mean Patrick isn't a sysop long since? If he isn't, then I second the nomination. --User:Tannin
    • I support too. I think Patrick will be a very capable sysop. Angela
    • I accept my nomination. Thank you for your support and kind words. - Patrick 11:26, 13 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • I support. He's a conscientious contributor. -- Heron 21:20, 13 Sep 2003 (UTC)
    • Strong support - every one of his edits, that I've sen, has been good and uncontroversial - one of the unsung heros of Wikipedia.
    • Sixthed.--戴&#30505sv 02:40, Sep 14, 2003 (UTC)
    • Ambivalent. I have found him rigid and dogmatic in editing disagreements. Also, he frequently forsakes adding a summary to his edits. Viajero 19:50, Sep 14, 2003 (UTC)
