Victor Arroyo is a video artist recognized for a style that combines community-based research with ethnography. His practice is situated in the crossfield between cinema and contemporary art.[1]

Arroyo studied visual arts, filmmaking, design art practices and social research methodologies at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico and Concordia University in Canada. He holds a PhD in Humanities from Concordia University.[2]

His first video installation, Turcot, about the reconstruction of this multi-billion-mega-highway structure, resulting in the relocation of hundreds of local residents, premiered at the Canadian Centre for Architecture CCA in 2012.[3] [4] [5]

In 2021 he directed his first feature film, Cherán, about the P’urhépecha insurrection of 2011 in the forest of Michoacán, premiering at BIENALSUR[6], and followed by a presentation at the Canadian Centre for Architecture CCA as well. [7]

His work has been widely exhibited internationally in museums, galleries, and festivals all around the world.[1]
