Leons was born and raised in IJmuiden by Iwan and Monique Leons and played in the youth academy of Apollo Amsterdam. He made his debut for the senior team in the Dutch Basketball League (DBL) during the 2017–18 season.[1] In the following season, Leons became a permanent member of the team and started in 15 games, contributing 5.9 points and 4 rebounds per game for Apollo.
In 2020, Leons moved to the United States to play for the Mineral Area College. He helped the team claim a 20–0 record while winning the Midwest District championship. He led the team with 18.7 points and 9.5 rebounds, while also adding 2 blocks and 3.1 assists per game. Leons was named the Junior College Player of the Year by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC).[2]
Starting from the 2021–22 season, Leons plays for the Bradley Braves in the Missouri Valley Conference (MVC). He won back-to-back MVC Defensive Player of the Year awards in 2023 and 2024.[3]
After going undrafted in the 2024 NBA draft, Leons joined the Oklahoma City Thunder for the NBA Summer League[4] and on 27 September 2024, he signed with the team.[5]
Standing at 6 ft 9 in (2.06 m) with a 7 ft 1 in (2.16 m) wingspan, scouts have praised his versatility for his size, as well as his defensive awareness.[6]
