A motion of no confidence in the Barnier government was tabled on 4 October 2024 in the French National Assembly.[1] The vote is expected to take place on October 8.[2]
Date | 4 October 2024 |
---|---|
Location | National Assembly, France |
Cause | Appointment of Michel Barnier as Prime Minister by President Emmanuel Macron |
Participants |
The motion was introduced by the New Popular Front in response to the appointment of conservative Michel Barnier as Prime Minister by President Emmanuel Macron.[1] The NFP has stated that the President should have appointed a member of their coalition as Prime Minister, as they won the most seats in the National Assembly election. Another reason cited for the motion is that the government has refused to reconsider the 2023 pension reform and the 2025 budget proposal.[2]
The motion is expected not to pass unless far-right lawmakers also support it.[1]
