It seems it is a good thing to have a user page, for reasons I don’t completely understand, not being heavily involved with the behind-the-scenes aspect of Wikipedia. What I am heavily involved in is being an active user of Wikipedia. I don’t think a day goes by when I don’t look up something, and usually several somethings, which I read avidly for my immediate edification, sometimes with profuse link-jumping. I do not retain this information well because my age and other factors have affected my cognitive abilities, but I’ve come to deeply value learning for its own sake, never mind that I can’t repeat it later on in conversation. As for my reason for wishing to gain access to editing privileges, I am a sort of natural-born proofreader, as well as a Journalism major (once a J-school major, always a J-school major) and former journalist, and I appreciate the opportunity to fix minor errors, usually short words that have been omitted—prepositions articles and short verbs that spell-check does not catch, to help make articles more readable. (Today I caught a misspelling in the New York Times—pursing instead of pursuing!) My user name, by the way, is a corruption of my first and middle names, Anita Ruth, and I originally created it for use in Animal Crossing.
