I have created the article on Colombo and also expanded Sri Lanka substantially. You may like to add more.--Nvvchar (talk) 15:31, 2 October 2014 (UTC)

VFD
While I agree that many of the VFD discussions should be closed, as I am the one who opened them, they should be closed by another admin (see Wikiquote:Votes_for_deletion#Closing_votes_and_deleting_articles, where it states: "To avoid conflict of interest, a sysop should never close a VfD that he or she started. However, a sysop may close a VfD in which he or she has voted."). ~ UDScott (talk) 17:56, 20 February 2016 (UTC)

Vandalism-only account
Thank you for your comment. Technically, you are of course correct. However, I mean that every edit from that IP is vandalism. Were it an account and not an IP, I think I'd have given it a much longer block.--Abramsky (talk) 15:26, 28 February 2016 (UTC)

Thanks
Thanks for the vandal fighting — I apologize for being "missing in action" — I literally dozed off a bit there — before posting the QOTD — and woke up a bit late to the mess that had gone on, in the relatively brief period of my doze. ~ <font style= "color:white;background:silver">♞☤☮♌Kalki·†·⚓⊙☳☶⚡</font> 00:44, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

:Hey Kalki! It's fine. I'll be thinking about running for sysopship myself, since there seems to be a need here. Thanks. ---Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 13:47, 26 March 2016 (UTC)

BBC One
Regarding this edit: BBC One is the name of a TV channel. "BBC, one" just makes no sense. In this case, the correct channel name is actually "BBC1" since that's what it was called at the time. Hairy Dude (talk) 17:56, 30 June 2016 (UTC)

Community Wishlist Survey 2020/Wikiquote/Fix rev parent id for some specific revisions
Currently, one of your edits to the page Amitabh Bachchan shows the wrong size diff number because rev_parent_id is wrong.

*<span class="plainlinks">19:32, 19 March 2014</span> shows <strong class='mw-plusminus-neg'>(-5,970)</strong> when it should instead be showing <span class='mw-plusminus-pos'>(+41)</span>.

The linked proposal on Meta will fix rev_parent_id for the above edit to make the size diff number correct.

love your user box
Hi PAGENAME

I don't usually have the time to visit individual userpages. Not sure what drew my attention to your page, but I must tell you I absolutely love your #2 userbox. You are the first user I have seen display it. Cheers, Ottawahitech (talk) 15:25, 31 December 2021 (UTC)

No-Israel image on your User-Page
Hi PAGENAME,

I would like to ask you two questions:

# One in regards to wiki-land functionaries

# the other about what I believe to be an inappropriate post on a user page

Background: I wiki-met you over the years on other wiki-land wikis as well as here. You seemed to be a good-faith, low-key contributor. Lately I have noticed that you are a Wiki-land functionary wearing many hats, and most recently I discovered that you display a No-Israel image on one of you User pages.

Here are my questions:

# Do you feel that all wiki-land ruling classes such as admins, global sysops,etc., should be treated exactly the same as all users, or do you feel that since they are voted to serve the community, their behavior should provide an example for others to emulate?

# Since it appears that you do not believe Israel has a right to exist, I wonder what your views are on providing a NPOV on wiki-land wikis that have NPOV policies (all, I think, but you know better than I do?).

Take your time. I would rather have a properly-explained response than a speedy one. Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 20:18, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

:Hi Ottawahitech,

:I fail to understand why my behavior has changed from a "good-faith, low-key" editor that I seemed to be many years ago. I don't believe posting your political views on your user page should be scrutinized and even seen as a negative in someone's character. I also do not believe there is any issue in speaking out against the state of Israel, to which I will not engage in a political discourse regarding such because I don't believe it will benefit either me or you. I believe I have just as much freedom to represent anti-Zionist views, just as this Commons user has his freedom to oppose Islam. You don't see me questioning this user, despite the user's commitment to uploading Islamaphobic material, right? Firstly, he has a right to do so since Wikimedia aims to produce neutral content on all topics. Secondly, I have a lot better things to do than police other people.

:To answer the questions, we are all adults so there isn't any sort of "model behavior" that admins need to show. Administrators and the such are simply users who have been tasked with extra responsibilities in the maintenance of the wikiworld. They are just the same as even anonymous editors & all the rules still apply to all user groups.

:Secondly, I do not have any issues with NPOV articles. As cited earlier, I acknowledge Wikimedia's setting for neutral content. Again, I am not sure why this question is being asked to me simply because I oppose the state of Israel. To claim that the image on my WV page is "inappropriate", yet I haven't seen you condemn anti-Islamic & anti-LGBT views on other users' pages, seems to be double-standard to me.

:I hope that my political views have no bearing on me as a Wikimedia editor, since I haven't made any effort to do so. Thanks. -Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 20:40, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

::Since you have said that you believe that normal administrative duties include such things as as blocking vandals, how do you reconcile this sentiment with the attitude that you have a lot better things to do than police other people? Are you an admin or not? Do you block vandals or not?

::As I said before, take your time. Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 21:55, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

:::Hello Ottawahitech,

:::I'm sensing some dishonesty in our discussion. The "police other people" comment was clearly not referring to blocking vandals or performing other administrative duties, but was referring to running around on Wikimedia and complaining about people's political views that don't align with mine. I am an administrator, yes. I block vandals, yes. I do NOT go around telling people that their political views are inappropriate, no.

:::Thanks,

:::-Atcovi (Talk - Contribs) 22:14, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

::::So far, out of the 5 questions I asked you answered 2:

::::* Yes, you are an admin

::::and

::::* Yes, you block vandals

::::But since you did not say whether you consider vandals to be people, you still did not explain why you feel that blocking vandals is not policing them. BTW do you also block/police people for reasons other than vandalism? (q 6)

::::Can we please leave out the ad hominims (implying that I am being dishonest, and that I am trying to police you, etc,)?

::::Thanks in advance, Ottawahitech (talk) 00:09, 21 January 2024 (UTC)

:::::Hello Ottawahitech,

:::::I apologize but I am no longer interested in engaging in this discourse. The discussion has gone off-topic and seems to be counter-productive. I apologize if any of my statements were interpreted as 'ad hominems' & I want to clarify that I only oppose the state of Israel and harbor no anti-Semitic views/hatred towards the Jewish people - and I do not feel like it's fair to consider my political stance "inappropriate" simply because you do not agree with it.

:::::I wish you a good day, thanks!
