From phrases such as ἄλλος ἄλλον (állos állon), ἄλλοι ἄλλους (álloi állous, one another), with loss of λ either by dissimilation or by the lengthening of α, as well as restoration of the second initial vowel ή () (< *h₂élyos (other)).
