From Proto-Sino-Tibetan *măH (a kind of bird (peacock, parrot)); cognate with Tibetan རྨ་བྱ (rma bya, peacock); compare also Bodo (India) [script needed] (məyra, peacock) (Peiros & Starostin, 1996).
