Could someone tell me where could I complain about protraction with creating Lower Sorbian Wikipedia? When Upper Sorbian Wikipedia started as regular Wikipedia, many new authors came and it has now about 760 articles. Lower Sorbian Wikipedia would by the same case. --Dezidor 22:17, 16 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have no idea for what you would like to complain. Your answers would be helpful to understand your problem.

  • Do you have any problem to start your test wiki here? (See the requirements on the Main Page please).
  • Have you submited your request on meta following the policy?

Generally, if you don't follow the official policy and procedure, it is hard for other people to help you out. Cheers, --Aphaia 20:28, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The complaint is that Upper Sorbian (hsb) and Lower Sorbian (dsb) were requested at the same time, both met with wide approval from the people voting at Meta, but due to some confusion only Upper Sorbian Wikipedia was created, and Lower Sorbian wasn't. So Lower Sorbian was requested again at Meta, and again met wide (indeed unanimous) approval last October. But the creation of Lower Sorbian Wikipedia has now been rejected at m:Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Lower Sorbian for some procedural reason relating to a change in policy there, meaning that now a third request for Lower Sorbian will have to be made. In the meantime, Wp/dsb here at Incubator has 214 articles waiting to be transferred to a real Wikipedia. Angr 23:36, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
They probably mean that they don't want Upper and Lower Sorbian created since they might coexist on a single wiki. To quote the policy:
The language must be sufficiently unique that it could not coexist on a more general wiki. In most cases, this excludes regional dialects and different written forms of the same language.
. Try requesting a transwiki to Upper Sorbian. Thunderhead 07:52, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
@ Thunderhead: It is big nonsense. Do you understand Upper or Lower Sorbian? --Dezidor 18:06, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
No, I don't think it's a rejection because of similarity to Upper Sorbian. When they changed the policy at meta, they automatically rejected all outstanding language proposals and said they had to be re-proposed to conform with the new policy. It's purely a formality, but it's a formality that's a pain the ass since Lower Sorbian has already gathered support from the community twice. Angr 10:19, 1 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
For those, who dont know: Lower Sorbian and Upper Sorbian are completly different languages. They are relted, but they are different like: German and English. Pe7er 19:12, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I dont know why they didnt created domain dsb. I have even asked developers bout that and havent got any anwser (for example: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User_talk:Brion_VIBBER#Lower_Sorbian_Wikipedia). But if there is a Lak language edittion wchich has today only 8 articles (this is not a joke see: http://lbe.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Allpages) maybe there is a chance when we start request again. What do you think? becouse after 2 failures I am a litlle bit upset. Pe7er 19:12, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ok, people let's do it again acording to procedure. Your arguments are needed here http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Requests_for_new_languages/Wikipedia_Lower_Sorbian_2 Pe7er 10:51, 3 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hallo. --ARBE0 17:08, 4 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Нихтенно, Детцо, Нихтенно and Падонки could be in a same language (or not). Each of them are orphaned and short, submited by anon (I have no idea if one same person was behind those edits). There is no front page for those pages ... how are those pages to be dealt with? --Aphaia 20:24, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Looks kind of Ukrainian to me, so they probably belong to the Surzhyk test. They should be deleted, no useful content and at least [[Нихтенно looks kind of offensive (the word "Ахуенно" to be exact), the content of "Детцо" is "дети", meaning "Children" in Russian, while the content of Падонки (see en:Padonki for an explanation of the title) transliterates as "mekknek", which might be a slang word. Really nothing worth keeping. --Johannes Rohr 17:21, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've started the test page for Wikipedia Rotuman (see request here and test page here) and would like it listed on this page. How should I go about it? BTW do I need to become an administrator to create the new wikipedia, or help it's testpage's development? Thanks Mattbray 07:55, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please see MediaWiki talk:Edittools. Thank you, SPQRobin 17:26, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Dear admins!

As Belorussian language was recently granted a separate project and all Wp/be/ pages have already been successfully moved there, could someone delete Wp/be/ section? Alessandro 13:58, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is seconded. I'm former active participator in wp/be charter of incubator, and now am participating in the w:be:, which is where the incubator project was transwikied. The incubator pages may be safely deleted now, so as to reduce load on incubator and clatter in search engines. If something else is needed to legalize this request please let me know at the w:be:user_talk:Yury_Tarasievich. Yury Tarasievich 08:34, 22 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Could someone delete pages from this category? Alessandro 13:59, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I don't see any documentation around, is my understanding correct, that the Test-wp is obsolete and all new Wikipedia test projects should use /wp/[iso code] instead? --Johannes Rohr 17:23, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

There aren't many admins, so please see here. SPQRobin 19:00, 28 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

How does one create a test wiki for a new project? Can everyone do this? If this is something that must be requested, where is the proper place to make the request? Also, what is the naming convention for new projects? Squideshi 05:09, 13 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Incubator:Policy provides, "New project proposals will be created here after being approved by the Foundation at Meta." In contrast, Incubator:Policy/Draft provides, "The Wikimedia Incubator hosts tests of new language editions of existing projects for proposals...Incubator does not host tests for projects not listed at wikimedia.org." Is Wikimedia Incubator for new language tests only, or is it also for new project tests; and if so, how does one request approval for a new project test? Squideshi 05:28, 13 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Incubator is not for new projects. You can propose a new project at meta. Some proposals have a wiki site, so you can see what wiki you want to use for your proposal. SPQRobin 11:11, 13 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
That page provides, "In the very near future this page, among others, may be integrated into the process at Wikimedia Incubator. You may wish to withhold suggestions until the interchange is complete." In addition, the Incubator main page provides, "This is the Wikimedia Incubator, where potential Wikimedia project wikis like a new language Wikipedia or Wikinews or a totally new project can be arranged, written, tested and proven worthy of being hosted by the Wikimedia Foundation." Further, the first table on that page is divided into two sections; and the second section is labeled new project tests. Are these errors? Squideshi 11:55, 13 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
That is because of Incubator:Policy: This page, or a part of it, is proposed. It is not official yet. Please feel free to improve or comment on it., so it is possible to make your proposal here, but at Communitas (a poroposal), there is: This does not belong on Incubator: please move it somewhere more appropriate (Meta) and notify me so that I can delete it. SPQRobin 12:49, 13 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
This needs to be clarified on the main page and the other pages mentioned here. In addition, it is not clear if only part or all of Incubator:Policy is proposed; and the relationship between this policy and Incubator:Policy/Draft needs to be clarified. Squideshi 11:08, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
My English isn't that good, so... Feel free to edit! :-) SPQRobin 14:39, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I do not have permission to edit the main page. Squideshi 21:07, 14 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
That's because your account is autoconfirmed over 4 days, then you can edit the main page. I saw you have put a message on the talk pages of the main page etc. The problem is that Incubator hasn't a community to decide the things what you've said. SPQRobin 11:58, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I do not understand. What do you mean when you indicate that Incubator does not have a community to decide these things, and to what things are you referring? I assume that you do not mean that a decision must be made regarding whether new projects will be permitted on Incubator without prior Meta approval, as you have already conclusively stated "Incubator is not for new projects." Who created Incubator? Was there a proposal that preceded its creation; and if so, what does that proposal say about the purpose of Incubator? Squideshi 17:24, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't know who proposed/created Incubator. About "there isn't a community": On Wikipedia you can propose something, and the community will vote, but here are only users for test Wikipedia's, etc , and no users for decide things like "could there be test projects at Incubator?" SPQRobin 20:31, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I saw many images without a license. Now I have made a page, User:SPQRobin/Upload. Shouldn't it be better to use that page instead of Special:Upload?

After this, I will make MediaWiki:Licenses and MediaWiki:Uploadtext.

What do you think? Please give some comments!

SPQRobin 18:35, 19 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have done it, but if you don't want that, I can remove it. SPQRobin 18:05, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Could we update the board election notice to say something like this?

Voting for candidates in the Wikimedia Board Election will begin Thursday, 0:00 June 28, 2007 (UTC).

Thanks! Greeves (talk contribs Wikipedia) 16:48, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

What do you mean? SPQRobin 19:34, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
At the top of many pages, there is a notice saying that we may endorse candidates, etc. I am suggesting that an admin update it with the above message as we have done on the English Wikipedia. Greeves (talk contribs Wikipedia) 20:29, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I am an admin, but.. I really can't find that message. :-( SPQRobin 20:39, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I looked through the MediaWiki pages on this wiki and I couldn't find it either! Where is the message coming from? Greeves (talk contribs Wikipedia) 20:44, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Maybe someone has changed one page on Meta, and now you can see it on every Wikimedia wiki. SPQRobin 20:54, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
That's strange, because on the en Wikipedia it's different. Greeves (talk contribs Wikipedia) 22:49, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
