Jean Grey was rescued instead of Nightcrawler from being dropped into the Infinity Vortex by Mephisto. His mother Mystique angrily attacked Professor X in revenge, leaving him a coma. Professor X eventually died, leading to the permanent disbandment of the X-Men.[1]

- Nightcrawler is shown at the grave of Professor X. Either this is a mistake on the creator's part or Nightcralwer found a way to return to Earth but not soon enough to stop his mother from attacking Professor X.
