Especially when editing templates, it is often difficult to see what effects whitespaces have. An extension of syntax highlighting could mark spaces and line breaks that affect formatting. For example ¶ for line breaks and · for spaces could be used, shown in subtle colors. In implementation, there would be a way to toggle the function on and off.
