In May 2022, Hughes and his wife and manager, Allison Sohn stated during an online panel discussion that he was no longer producing comics art full time, as he was now doing character design and concept art for Marvel Studios Animation, for which Hughes was learing to use different graphics software. However, although his contract permitted him to keep the original artwork he produced, the non-disclosure agreement that he signed as part of the contract meant that he cannot not publicly share the work he produced when the projects are still in production, and that even though he is able to keep the original art he produces, his contract prohibits him from selling it.
