The church occupies a building in [[New Inn Hall Street]] opposite the site of the first Methodist Meeting House in Oxford.

Oxford's first Methodist [[meeting house]] was a building on the east side of [[New Inn Hall Street]]. It is now numbered 32–34 and is part of [[Brasenose College, Oxford|Brasenose College]]. A plaque on the wall commemorates the fact that John Wesley preached there on 4 July 1783.

AThe subsequentcongregation later moved to a second building on the otherwest side of the street. This has since been demolishedsold and the site has been incorporated byinto [[St Peter's College, Oxford|St Peter's College]].

The present [[Gothic Revival architecture|Gothic Revival]] building was started in 1877 and opened in October 1878.{{sfn|Hibbert|1988|p=495}} The architect [[Charles Bell (British architect)|Charles Bell]] designed it in a revival of [[English Gothic architecture#Decorated Gothic|Decorated Gothic]].{{sfn|Sherwood|Pevsner|1974|p=299}} The building contractor was Joshua Symm.
