The goals of this WikiProject are to centralize data about medical topics. This data will make maintenance of Wikipedia easier and will be available to anyone in the world.
Wikidata and this project are still in development. The following is a rough roadmap of what we would like to do:
- Manage sitelinks for medical topics. Done
- This seems to work really well already and frees up a lot of time to work on articles.
- Connect medical topics with their corresponding identifiers in medical databases.
- Example: Ebola hemorrhagic fever (Q51993) has the ID "4325" in the disease ontology database.
- Progress: We already store thousands of identifiers and some of them are already used in Wikipedia. (E.g. Property talk:P715)
- Build our own ontology using subclass of (P279) and other properties
- Fully describe medical topics with simple statements.
- Translation of items (Q...) and properties (P...) enables us to translate statements into all languages of the world.
- Allow for the data to be queried and meaningful results being shown.
