The Galactic Senate's Naval Subcommittee was a political subcommittee within the Galactic Republic. It was active during the Clone Wars against the Separatist Alliance,[1] fought from 22 BBY to 19 BBY,[2] and had the Procurement Panel directly beneath it. The panel oversaw the Department of Naval Procurement, that was responsible for obtaining starships, supplies, and new technology for the Republic Navy. Through the Procurement Panel, the Republic contracted a number of manufacturing companies, such as Kuat Drive Yards, Corellian Engineering Corporation, and Sienar Fleet Systems. These companies gave the Republic each of their designs, with hopes of selling them for the war.[1]
The Naval Subcommittee was first mentioned in the new Star Wars canon in Rise of the Separatists, a 2019 supplement to Fantasy Flight Games' series of Star Wars Roleplaying products.[1] In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Naval Subcommittee was originally mentioned in "Admiral Jerjerrod's Testimony," a short story authored by Greg Gorden for the Imperial Sourcebook published by West End Games for Star Wars: The Roleplaying Game in 1993.[3]
